Stainless steel appliances have been the main player in kitchens for some time now. Needing a special cleaner and being nothing short of high maintenance stainless steel doesn’t live up to its name. A while back our fridge went out. Right at Christmas time I was keeping leftovers in a mini fridge and at our neighbors. We had no choice but to buy a new one.

When my husband and I settled on a model he asked me about the color. What color would I like? Black, white or stainless were the options. I was torn between stainless steel and white. Our cabinets, stove, and microwave are white and I thought white would look best but I’ve always liked stainless steel too. Our kitchen style is a country farmhouse look and I like the clean white and bright feel of it. So I took a leap and ordered white.

I’m so glad I did…. it’s not your grandma’s wrinkly fridge with the weird lines on it from the 90’s. This baby is sleek! It has a new finish and really complements the room. It’s squeaky clean….till one of the boys touches it. But even then I can’t tell its dirty. With stainless, it shows a  mark if you even walk too close to it! I read this article about how white appliances are making a comeback and stainless steel soon will look dated and people will be like “that’s so 2000’s.” You can read that post below.

White appliances are the new thing. What new kitchen trends will we have in the coming years? I like the classic look so hopefully, this trend continues and we can boot stainless steel to the side. I say that as my stainless steel dishwasher is staring at me. Sorry, Betsy! I picked you out on sale and didn’t have much choice in your color.

If you are in the market for a new fridge, I highly recommend mine. It’s the 25.4 Side By Side Refridgerator by GE. There is a link below to the model along with some pictures of it. My favorite things about this fridge are the slide out shelves. You never have to reach into the back of the fridge. It also has clear shelf storage on the doors which I love. It’s easy to clean inside and out, and I love how quiet it runs.

Why i chose white

I love our fridge. After using it for a whole year, I have nothing but good news. We’ve had no problems with it. No scuff marks or staining. My boys did take a permanent marker to it. With rubbing alcohol it all came off. It never has an old fridge smell and it keeps everything at the perfect temperature. I really love how it fits ALL our food and leftovers.

Let me know in the comments below which look you like. WHITE or STAINLESS?

  1. This is actually so true – I get so many scratches and marks all over my stainless steel appliances…but they’re so pretty when they’re clean! Which is rare…HAHA

  2. I love the look of your kitchen. White was definitely the right choice. My husband and I are planning to update our kitchen in the next five years and now I want all white appliances.

  3. hi,
I like the look of your kitchen and also think that ice white is making a comeback. My wife and I are getting ready to sell our house, and purchased sleek, smudge-less white appliances about two years ago – we liked the clean look compared to what we saw in stainless steel. However, our realtor and stager are telling us to replace them with stainless steel, to sell the house more quickly. Frankly, in my opinion, the dull grey that form the sides of a stainless steel refrigerator will not look good in our kitchen (one side of the refrigerator would be exposed). I could see replacing the appliances with Black or Slate, but the white looks good. What’s your opinion? Will it make a difference in selling the house?

    1. Hi Steve. Thanks for your comment. In my honest opinion I would keep the white. If it looks good in your kitchen and the appliances are newer like you say, I see no reason to replace them. Right now the big trend is farmhouse style kitchens. If your home stager isn’t up to date with current trends you may actually miss out on potential buyers who are looking for that. My advice would be to stage the kitchen similar to those staged by Joanna Gaines. Keep the white appliances. It opens up the room and makes it look bigger. I purchased my home two years ago and was actually turned off by stainless steel appliances. Everyone has different tastes. You could end up switching to stainless, only to have a buyer wish they were white. Stand your ground and go with your gut. I hope you sell it soon. God Bless and Happy New Year to you.
