DOE’S GOD CARE WHAT WE WATCH?
You don’t have to look far to find scriptures in the Bible that talk about what we should and should NOT look at. God cares about everything that influences us, whether that is through our eyes, ears or mouth. What we watch on tv and the music we listen to all impact us on some level. The Bible says “I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.” – Psalms 101:3
From this verse, we understand two things. One, we should look at NO WICKED thing. Two, if we follow that principal, evil will not cleave to us. With this verse in mind we should always check to make sure a tv show, movie, video game or anything we see has nothing wicked or evil in it. Each of us should also consider going through our own personal movie collection and evaluate what we’re allowing in our homes.
WHAT EXACTLY FALLS UNDER BEING “WICKED” OR “EVIL”?
It should be easy to tell when you are viewing something that is not of God. However, Hollywood has mastered the dark art of subliminal messaging and hiding the dark tones and sadistic symbolism in their tv shows and movies.
No matter how hard they try to manipulate the way you think and lead you to disregard your values, you can see the wickedness if you’re looking for it. It should be easy to pick out dark magic, sorcery, witches, incantations, spells, cauldrons, vampires, ghosts and demons.
It may be difficult to pick out storylines that promote sin through characters. Some examples include, but not limited to, disobeying parents or authorities (ex. Moana, Brave, Mulan, Pocahontas, Tangled) or movies that highlight false pagan religions (ex. Mulan, Moana, The Princess and The Frog). To save yourself the time of having to pre-screen movies for your children or yourself, there are a few great sites that break down movies based on:
- Spiritual content
- Crude or profane words
- Violent scenes
- Drug and alcohol
- Sexual content

WHAT SHOULD WE THINK ON?
I wanted to share a verse with you all that should pass through your mind before you do anything. Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there any praise, think on these things.” As a steward over His children that He has allowed you to train up, it would be wise to memorize this verse and use it as a filter for all that comes in through not only your portals (eyes & ears) but, your children as well.
TAKING PSALMS 101:3 AND APPLYING IT IN A PRACTICAL WAY
As the mother of three small children, I don’t have much time to watch tv. However, my kids do when I make dinner. In our home, I had a collection of DVDs and VHS tapes (mostly Disney) from when I was little and I planned to pass them to my kids. After studying Psalms 101:3 and other verses, I felt God convicting me about the movies I had in my home. Even though my kids hadn’t watched them yet, I knew they didn’t need to.
So I decided to sit down and go through ALL our movies and purge the ones that would spiritually compromise my children. The movies I tossed were 90%, Disney. Every movie I trashed contained something that would break the rule of not setting anything wicked before our eyes.
HERE’S A GREAT POST THAT BREAKS DOWN 10 WAYS DISNEY CORRUPTS CHILDREN
These movies are just stories, we shouldn’t be so emotionally attached to something that doesn’t do anything for us. Yet here I was clinging to these stories from my childhood. Why was I so attached to something that I hadn’t even seen in years? I came to the conclusion that the only thing I would miss from these movies was the music. It’s interesting to note that the Bible makes a connection between Satan and music. He was the “anointed Cherub that coverth” in Ezekiel 28:13-14 it says, “…the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.” It would make sense then that Lucifer, when he was cast out of heaven fell with his music also. His hatred of God and all things holy shows how corrupted “worldly” music is and promotes a multitude of sins.
While I was tossing movies I started searching online for a list of Disney movies with witchcraft in them, to speed the process along. While searching I stumbled upon a youtube video called THE DISNEY DECEPTION. This is a documentary about the influences Walt Disney had during his life and how they translated into the movies. It also breaks down a load of Disney movies pointing out the hidden symbols and messages. I HIGHLY recommend everyone watch the Disney Deception. One thing to note about the video called “The Disney Deception” is that at the end the narrator starts praying and tries to “cast out” demons… I DO NOT CONDONE THIS PRACTICE.
A VIDEO OF ME SORTING AND TRASHING OUR MOVIES
To make myself finish sorting through the movies in one sitting, I filmed myself going through my collection. In the video below you’ll hear me talk a bit more about what I look for in each movie and you’ll see what I actually tossed in the garbage.
